Tourists walking through the center of Bucaramanga - there is a lot do in the Colombian city
The city center of Bucaramanga with it's newly renowated pedestrian area.

Bucaramanga remains a hidden gem for many travelers visiting Colombia. Known as one of the country’s most beautiful and safest cities, it boasts a newly renovated, inviting pedestrian area downtown, as well as the vibrant "Cabecera" district, full of fantastic restaurants, bars, and shopping opportunities. Unlike well-known cities such as Cartagena, Medellín, or Bogotá, Bucaramanga has yet to be discovered by mass tourism, making it the perfect place to experience Colombia authentically, interact with locals, and practice your Spanish.

Once you arrive in Bucaramanga, there’s much more to do than just sip coffee, dine out, or shop. Here are our top 15 things to do in Bucaramanga:

A Stroll Through “Parque de la Flora”

As you enter this beautiful city park, you’ll often be welcomed by curious squirrels. An oasis amidst the city’s hustle and bustle, the park offers a peaceful refuge for those looking to reconnect with nature. Stroll along the two-kilometer path surrounded by lush tropical plants and trees, listen to the songs of local birds, spot squirrels, and enjoy the serene atmosphere. There’s even a small outdoor gym where you can work out for free amid the greenery – the park is also a great spot for jogging!

Hike with a View: Pan de Azúcar

Just a short walk from Cabecera lies the starting point for an incredible hike. While the climb is a bit challenging, you'll be rewarded after about an hour with breathtaking panoramic views over Bucaramanga. At the summit, you’ll find a charming finca offering fresh coffee, juices, and arepas. You might even spot colorful canaries and, if you’re lucky, a parrot! You can do the hike on your own or join one of our guided tours.

Visit a Coffee Plantation

Only 30 minutes from Bucaramanga, you’ll find one of Colombia’s most stunning coffee tours at Hacienda Casa Blanca. During the tour, you'll discover how coffee is produced, stroll through the beautiful plantation, and even visit a hidden waterfall where you can cool off. Of course, the tour ends with a delicious coffee tasting. Our guides are happy to organize your transport and translate everything into English for you.

Bucaramanga from Above: Ride to “Santísimo”

For breathtaking sunsets, don’t miss the gondola ride to the Santísimo viewpoint. The 15-minute ride takes you to one of the city’s highest points, where you can enjoy incredible views over Bucaramanga while sipping a coffee or a traditional “Masato”.

Breathtaking Mountain Scenery: Day Trip to Chicamocha Canyon (with or without Paragliding)

Just a short drive away lies one of Latin America's most spectacular natural wonders: the Chicamocha Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world. Whether you want to soar above it on an unforgettable paragliding adventure or cross it by gondola in the national park, we’ve got you covered. Our guides will also take you to secret lagoons where you can swim and soak up the stunning scenery. Sign-up here

Escape to the Cold: Discover the Páramo de Santurbán

The "Frailejón" is a cactus-like plant unique to Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador. It plays a vital role in transforming mist into water, crucial during dry seasons. Found only above 3,500 meters, the frailejones cover the mystical Páramo landscapes. Contact us and join us for an adventurous hike where you'll discover these fascinating plants, hidden lagoons, and charming mountain villages – offering a stark contrast to Colombia’s usual tropical image.

Authentic Comuna Tour – Away from the Crowds

While Medellín’s Comuna 13 has become a major tourist hotspot, it has lost much of its original authenticity. If you want to experience a truly authentic Colombian barrio, guided by locals who live there and can share firsthand stories, Bucaramanga is the place to do it. Sign up here!

Mountains, Farmer’s Market, and Indigenous History: Explore the Colombian Andes

On our day tour to “Mesa de los Santos,” you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Andes, visit the country’s most charming farmers’ market – perfect for picking up regional specialties and souvenirs – and explore caves with ancient indigenous carvings. Our English-speaking guide will explain the rich history of Colombia’s indigenous peoples.

A Castle in the Jungle: Discover Montefiori Eco Resort

Just 20 minutes from Bucaramanga, in the suburb of Floridablanca, lies the lush jungle surrounding Montefiori, a charming hotel and restaurant built like a castle. Surrounded by vibrant flora and fauna, you might even hear howler monkeys in the trees! Small waterfalls perfect for a refreshing dip are nearby too. If you’re up for a challenge, hike there on foot, or join our 4x4 day tour for a more relaxed journey.

Step Back in Time: Explore the Colonial Town of Girón

Girón is Bucaramanga’s oldest neighborhood, where Spanish settlers founded the city over 500 years ago. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, admire the whitewashed colonial houses, and enjoy an ice cream in this charming, historic setting. Our guided tour includes an English-speaking guide and a sweet treat: a visit to a local chocolate workshop!
